Services:
The public works department is a consolidation of the Road department and the C & D Landfill. The responsibilities of these two departments include the following:
Maintenance of roughly 500 miles of county roads (roughly 50% dirt roads) and other various duties including:
- Scraping, patching, mowing, spraying
- Installation of new signs and replacing down or missing signs
- Inspecting for damage caused by permitted logging/ hauling operations
- Haul and spread State and locally purchased aggregate
- Inspect, install, clear and repair cross drains, bridges and culverts
- Oversee road resurfacing projects
- Clear trees and debris from roads
- Submit and oversee State projects i.e. LARP, road striping and bridge and culvert repair and replacement.
- Bury large animals
- Fleet maintenance including PM’s of the departments heavy equipment and county vehicles
- Provide Clearing, demolition and grading for county building projects
- Assist other county departments and BOE with hauling and grading projects
- Management of the C & D landfill
- Haul/remove recycle material and municipal waste (green bags) from the landfill, recycling centers and county schools
- Dig cells, and maintain erosion control devices and fulfill construction requirements for phase 2 of the C & D landfill.
- Manage the closure and maintenance of phase 1 C & D landfill
